About the Dual Sensory Impairment Project
The dual sensory impairment project’s strategic objective is a happier, healthier and safer life for people with DSI and their carers/families. Given the current lack of acceptance in law, policy and practice in Australia of DSI as a unique and distinct disability, we don’t have a national and funded dedicated service/s for recognition and support of those living with and impacted by DSI. So there is much work to be done:
- ADVOCACY for recognition of the unique and distinct disability, for dedicated support, for funding and including everyone impacted individuals, carers/families, community and society
- AWARENESS RAISING (individuals, carers/families, community, practitioners and professionals)
- BUILDING BETTER DATA AND KNOWLEDGE THROUGH RESEARCH
- CODESIGNING AND COLLABORATING IN RESEARCH
- CONTINUING DUAL SENSORY IMPAIRMENT SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP
- CREATING SHORT COURSES
- DEVELOPING RESOURCES FOR CONSUMERS AND CARERS
- EMBRACING DIVERSE OUTPUTS: new knowledge, useful resources, artistic works
And in everything we plan and do, lived experiences inform all. Our group’s collective experiences are diverse: person with DSI, carers, researchers, educators, professionals, practitioners, clinicians, and writers.
